Who is Karen?

Who am I?

I take great pride in wearing multiple hats – that of a nurturing mother, a devoted wife, a visionary strategist, and an enthusiastic agent of change, all driven by my unwavering dedication to the prosperity of our community. I understand the profound importance of ensuring that every hard-earned tax dollar is utilized judiciously. Moreover, I recognize that it is my duty to be a strong advocate on behalf of our students, securing the resources they need for today's challenges. Through passionate advocacy and wise financial stewardship, we possess the power to not just provide an education but a top-notch one, maintain safe schools, and envelop our youth in the loving embrace of care and support from our community

My Family, My Foundation

I hail from a remarkably diverse family, where heritage and history have shaped our values. My mother, Heidi, hails from the Philippines and embarked on a journey to America in search of opportunities. It was on American soil that she crossed paths with my father, Hugh Mulzac Jr. Meanwhile, my grandfather, Hugh Mulzac Sr., etched his name in history as the first black captain to command an integrated ship in the U.S. Merchant Marines. Notably, my aunt, Una Mulzac, blazed a trail as an activist, a beacon in the community, and the proprietor of the world-renowned Liberation Bookstore in the heart of Harlem, NY.

From my earliest memories, my family instilled in me the profound importance of a high-quality education. They imparted the wisdom that a quality education, coupled with perseverance, paves the way to brighter opportunities and a fulfilling life.
